Nature is symbolized by the green woman. The dark withering trees on the left is what we have done and are still doing to Nature. Her body is not whole; it is already in parts, while she desperately clutches the fragile green thread of life.

The small sprouting green leaves are the hope of renewal, for life will surely spring out of death and destruction. Banana trees abound in ancient Indian art and to connect with that tradition, the sprouting leaves are banana leaves which carry the flavor of Indian art through the centuries.
